Sutton-On-Hull CC 1st XI 171 All Out

Brandsburton CC 1st XI 171/7

Sutton Cricket Club’s 1st XI suffered a hard-fought defeat as Brandsburton 1st XI squeezed past their total with three wickets to spare in a tense finish. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sutton had a shaky start after losing early wickets. Sutton then built a solid foundation around with a strong middle-order partnership between Lewis Sanderson and Harry Masterman. Sanderson anchored the innings with a top-scoring 62 off 100 balls, supported fluently by Masterman's lively 34 off 48 balls, guiding Sutton to a competitive 171 all out.

In response, Brandsburton were made to sweat for every run as debutant Harpreet Singh turned in an extraordinary performance with the ball. Bowling with immense control, Singh pinned the visitors back in a marathon spell, tearing through the top order to claim brilliant figures of 4 for 38 from his 13 overs and keeping Sutton right in the contest.

Despite Singh’s heroics and relentless pressure from the bowling attack, Brandsburton managed to steady the ship in the closing stages. They edged their way to 177/7 in 39.1 overs, successfully chasing down the target with just over 10 overs remaining to hand Sutton a narrow, agonising defeat.

2nd Team

Sutton-On-Hull CC 2nd XI 290/8

Brandsburton CC 2nd XI 223 All Out

Sutton Cricket Club’s 2nd XI ran out convincing winners in a high-scoring thriller against Brandsburton, defending a massive total of 290/8 to seal a complete team victory. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sutton produced a wonderfully balanced team effort, with almost every batter weighing in to pile on the pressure. The standout performance came from Syam Samudrala, who anchored the tail and provided crucial late acceleration with a superb, unbeaten 62 off 76 balls to set Brandsburton a daunting target of 291.

Brandsburton refused to back down quietly, coming out of the blocks at lightning speed to match Sutton’s steep required run rate early on. However, their aggressive approach came at a high cost, as Sutton’s bowling attack consistently struck back at key moments to break emerging partnerships and halt the visitors' momentum before they could take control of the chase.

Sutton’s three-pronged bowling attack proved decisive in closing out the game. Amit Shekhawat led the collapse with clinical figures of 3 for 21 off 6.2 overs, while Samudrala capped off a match-winning all-round display by claiming 3 for 32 off his 8 overs. Supported by a tireless marathon spell from Yasir Bashir (3 for 47 off 13 overs), Sutton steadily dismantled the opposition lineup to secure a brilliant and well-deserved victory.

3rd Team

Sutton-On-Hull CC 3rd XI 113 All Out

Driffield Town CC 5th XI 117/2

Sutton Cricket Club’s 3rd XI endured a tough afternoon as Driffield Town 5th XI handed them an eight-wicket defeat. Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Sutton struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Driffield attack, eventually being bowled out for 113 in 31.3 overs. The clear bright spark in a difficult innings was young Sam Ransom, who showed impressive grit and determination beyond his years to top-score with a hard-fought 26 off 63 balls.

In reply, Driffield Town waste no time setting about the chase, firing out of the blocks to put the pressure back on Sutton's bowlers. Despite the early onslaught, Tom Ransom delivered a remarkably tight opening spell to keep the opposition in check, conceding just 21 runs from his initial five overs and setting a steady standard at the start of the innings.

Chris Steeksma provided the breakthroughs for Sutton, picking up 2 for 24 from his 3.2 overs, but Driffield's batters maintained control to complete the run chase. Reaching 114/2 in just 16.2 overs, the visitors wrapped up a comfortable victory, leaving Sutton to take the hard-earned lessons and individual bright spots into their next fixture.

Womens Hardball 1st Team

Sutton-On-Hull CC Womens 1st XI 113 All Out

Driffield Town CC 5th XI 117/2

Sutton Cricket Club Women’s Hardball 1st XI produced a masterclass performance to claim a resounding victory over Hull Zingari. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, SCC posted a formidable total of 130/4 from their allotted overs. The innings was defined by superb discipline at the top, highlighted by a trio of standout retired-not-out displays: Hannah Paddison (31), Penny Williams (30), and Tanisha Jain (29) all batted brilliantly to put their side in complete control.

In response, Hull Zingari showed initial promise with a lively start, but SCC’s clinical bowling attack quickly took total charge of the contest. A relentless stream of wickets completely halted Zingari’s momentum, shattering their run chase and restricting them to a mere 69/9 as the pressure proved far too great.

Jodie Steeksma led the demolition job with remarkable figures of 3 for 6 off her 3 overs, while Paddison (2 for 7 off 4 overs) and Jain (2 for 8 off 3 overs) backed up their batting heroics with dominant, economical spells. 2nd Team (Hundred Plate)

Sutton-On-Hull CC 2nd XI 128/8

Ebberston CC 1st XI 71 All Out

Sutton Cricket Club’s 2nd XI capped off a remarkable weekend in style, punching their ticket to the Hundred Plate Final with a dominant victory in the semi-final. Making it a clean sweep of five toss wins across the club’s teams over the weekend, Sutton elected to bat first. Despite suffering an early setback with the loss of a key wicket, Zia Farooqi (40) and Faisal Sahak (39) counter-attacked brilliantly, steadying the ship and powering Sutton to a competitive total of 126/8 from their allotted 100 balls.

Defending 126, Sutton’s bowling unit produced a ruthless display to blow the opposition away. A continuous stream of wickets completely strangled the run rate and gave the chasing side no room to breathe, ultimately skittling them for just 71 off 75 balls.

Abid Shabbir delivered the knockout blow with an extraordinary spell, taking 4 for 8 from 15 balls, while Asaf Balal provided relentless support with figures of 3 for 17 off 20 balls.
