South Holderness CC 1st XI 168 All Out

Sutton-On-Hull CC 1st XI 25/1

Sutton Cricket Club’s 1st XI were denied a promising victory as torrential weather ultimately had the final say in a rain-marred clash. Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first under gray, overcast skies, Sutton’s attack thrived in the damp conditions, putting on a disciplined display to bowl the opposition out for 168. Amit Shekhawat led the charge with a fantastic spell, claiming 4 for 44 off 10.4 overs. He was backed up brilliantly by Harpreet Singh, who bowled a marathon 13 overs to finish with 3 for 40, while Hamza Khan kept the pressure high with an economical 2 for 23 from his 7 overs.

Sutton’s run chase quickly turned into a battle against the elements, with players forced on and off the field throughout the afternoon as heavy showers repeatedly halted play. Despite the continuous disruptions, Sutton made a steady start to their innings, navigating the tricky conditions to reach 25/1 after 9.1 overs.

However, the persistent downpours eventually left the pitch unplayable, forcing the umpires to officially abandon the fixture. While it was a frustrating end to an afternoon where Sutton held the upper hand, the 1st XI will take plenty of encouragement from another outstanding, clinical performance with the ball.

2nd Team

Sutton-On-Hull CC 2nd XI 189/7

Beverley CC 3rd XI 192/3

Sutton Cricket Club’s 2nd XI fell to a defeat against Beverley in a fixture dominated by precarious conditions, heavy rain, and revised targets. Put in to bat after losing the toss, Sutton faced a tough task on a treacherous pitch with dark skies overhead. Following lengthy discussions between the officials, play finally got underway, and Sutton showed great resolve in the difficult environment. Jon Petfield dug in resolutely with a gritty 26 off 61 balls, before Rehan Nisar unleashed an explosive onslaught, blasting 57* off just 36 balls—including three 4s and six massive 6s—to completely transform the innings.

As the weather worsened, rain forced an early tea break, resulting in the match being reduced to 39 overs a side. Sutton managed to close out their innings on a commendable 189/7, setting Beverley a tough task under difficult circumstances.

Set a revised DLS target of 192, Beverley adapted well to the surface to complete the chase for the loss of three wickets. Charlie Brook provided a bright spark in the field with a blistering, clinical spell, taking 2 for 7 off his two overs, but Beverley ultimately got over the line. On a day where cricket was secondary to the elements, Sutton’s 2nd XI earned immense credit for their grit and spectacular hitting in dismal conditions.
